PAUL RODRIGUEZ WINS SKATE
STREET FINAL AT THE DEW TOUR PORTLAND INVITATIONAL FOR SECOND
CONSECUTIVE YEAR
P-Rod Takes Top Spot
In A Stacked Final
Portland, Ore. –
August 13, 2011 – Paul Rodriguez
brought his signature effortless style to the Skate Street finals
at the Dew Tour Portland Invitational. With a final score of
88.18, he kicks off the skate street season of the Dew Tour at the
top of the rankings. The Final Jam featured the top six skaters
of the contest feeding off each other’s energy and attempting to
go bigger, as the clock wound down and crowd excitement grew.
P-Rod hit the stair set hard, landing a switch backside lipslide,
a switch crooks grind and a switch front feeble grind.
Ryan Decenzo, Manny Santiago and the rest of
the finalists didn’t make it an easy win for Rodriguez. “I knew I
had to try some things that made me nervous if I wanted a chance
at winning,” he said. “I had to step it up and go for a couple
more tech tricks that I didn’t do before.” Rodriguez sees today’s
strong performance as the first step in his Dew Tour goals. “I’m
really glad I won today but the Dew Cup is the ultimate goal.
I’ve been on the Tour for seven years and haven’t gotten it yet.
I’m after a winning season.”
This year’s Portland Invitational marked the
debut of the Dew Tour’s new skate street course design, which was
met with wide approval by one of the largest field of street
skaters in Dew Tour history. The concrete course features
multiple rails, ledges, hubbas and banks, allowing for skaters to
combine their creativity and technical skill to stand out in the
free-flowing jam format.
Rodriguez, Decenzo and Greg Lutzka headline
the list of the world’s top street skaters who will compete in
Salt Lake City, UT at the Dew Tour Toyota Challenge, September
8th-11th,
before vying for the Dew Cup at the Dew Tour Championships in Las
Vegas, Nev., October
13th-16th.
